AboutATC is a Macintosh port of the classic Unix air-traffic control simulator that originated on BSD systems in the 1980s. The player works a radar scope, issuing altitude, heading, and approach instructions to a steady stream of inbound and outbound aircraft, guiding each one to its assigned exit or airport without letting any two collide.GameplayEach turn, planes appear at airports and edge entry points and must be routed to their destinations. Commands are short keystrokes assigning a new heading, altitude, or instruction to land. The game ends when planes collide, leave by the wrong exit, or run out of fuel.Mac adaptationThe Mac version preserves the terse text-and-symbol radar display of the BSD original inside a Macintosh window, trading the Unix terminal for native menus and a resizable scope.HeritageThe BSD ATC game has been ported to many platforms over the decades; the classic-Mac build keeps that lineage alive for users running System 6 or 7, including under modern emulation. |
