Journey: The Quest Begins is Infocom's 1989 illustrated fantasy adventure, written by Marc Blank. It pairs first-person narrative prose with static color artwork and replaces the studio's traditional text parser with a point-and-click verb interface, making it one of Infocom's most accessible later releases.From Text Parser to Point-and-Click VerbsRather than typing free-form commands, the player drives the story through on-screen verb menus and contextual nouns. The change kept Infocom's deep storytelling intact while opening the game to readers uncomfortable with parser games.Tolkien-Inflected Fantasy NarrativeThe story is told in retrospect by the chronicler Tag, with diary entries ("Tag's musings") that double as in-game hints once a section is completed.
