AboutSpace Station Pheta is a 1989 black-and-white puzzle-platformer for the classic Macintosh, written by Joe Strout and distributed as shareware under the SoftDorothy label. The player guides an astronaut through a series of single-screen rooms aboard a derelict orbital station, jumping between platforms and dodging hazards to collect items and reach the exit.GameplayEach level is a static, one-screen room rendered in the crisp 1-bit graphics typical of compact Macs. The astronaut walks and jumps under simple physics; touching enemies or falling into pits costs a life. Levels are unlocked progressively as the player clears earlier rooms.Author and labelJoe Strout released the game under his SoftDorothy banner, which also produced other classic-Mac shareware titles. The game was distributed widely on user-group disks and BBSes during the late 1980s and early 1990s.Platform notesThe original release targets System 6 on a black-and-white compact Macintosh. It runs comfortably under emulators such as Mini vMac configured for a Plus or SE. |
