About

MegaSimpsonHomer is a 1996 shareware action-adventure by Stewart Smith and MegaTime in which Homer Simpson roams a top-down world eating donuts and demolishing nuclear power plants. Built on the Duck Quest engine and seasoned with TV show audio, version 1.2 ran on tiny 9-inch Macs for a five-dollar registration.PremiseYou play Homer with a single non-violent objective: gobble every donut you can find while shutting down a string of nuclear power plants. Each level ends when Homer reaches a smiley icon, which advances him deeper into the map and bumps his skill level.Engine and LookThe game reuses the Duck Quest engine, which gives it a tile-based top-down view sized for the original compact Macintosh screen. Sprites and sound effects pulled from The Simpsons television series carry the personality.Shareware TermsReleased as shareware version 1.2, MegaSimpsonHomer asked players for a five-dollar registration fee from MegaTime in exchange for the unlocked experience.System NeedsThe application targets 68k Macs from System 6.x through Mac OS 9, fits inside roughly 200 to 256K of RAM, and is laid out for the nine-inch screens of the original Macintosh family.
