About

MacDo is a 2000 freeware/shareware Mac arcade game by Sebastian Wegner, released under the Mcsebi label. It is an action-packed homage to Universal's 1982 arcade hit Mr. Do!: 50 underground stages full of tunnels to dig, cherries to collect, and various enemies to dispatch with magic balls and well-timed falling apples.OriginsMacDo wears its inspiration on its sleeve - it is built explicitly as a Macintosh tribute to Universal's Mr. Do!, the 1982 Pac-Man-adjacent dig-and-dodge arcade game. The Macintosh Garden listing describes it as an "action packed game based on the classic video game Mr. Do, released in 1982," and the play loop mirrors the original closely.GameplayEach of the 50 underground levels asks the player to tunnel through soft earth, scoop up cherries, and avoid or kill enemy creatures. The two signature attacks come straight from the source material: a thrown magic ball that bounces back to the player, and apples nudged into shafts to drop on pursuers. Side-scrolling presentation gives the dig grid a touch more breathing room than Mr. Do!'s single-screen original.Technical requirementsMacDo targets late-1990s Power Macs: System 7.6 or later (compatible through Mac OS 9), a Power Macintosh at 180 MHz or faster, 9 MB of free RAM, and QuickTime 2.5 or higher (5 recommended). Audio relies on QuickTime Musical Instruments, so users without that component installed will get a silent game.DistributionMacDo was released by Wegner in 2000 through his Mcsebi imprint and is preserved today on Macintosh Garden as a 50-level side-scrolling Mr. Do! tribute. The package includes three screenshots on the MG entry, illustrating tunnel layouts, the playable digger, and the title presentation.
