About

Burbank Rummy is a shareware card game by Scott Henderson, dated 1999 on Macintosh Garden, that mixes traditional rummy with elements of Canasta and Oklahoma Gin. The Info-Mac release archived here is the demo build (version 1.2), which lets players try the game in three-hand sessions before registering.Gameplay and designThe author describes Burbank Rummy as a variation of the classic rummy card game with a sprinkle of Canasta and a dash of Oklahoma Gin - a deliberate hybrid rather than a strict implementation of any one variant. Macintosh Garden files it under Card and Casino.Demo limits and registrationPer the archive notes, the demo allows three hands at a time before prompting for a registration code, after which the program can be relaunched for another three. Registering for $10 grants uninterrupted play, advanced skill levels, and the ability to save games in progress.System requirementsThe upload calls for an '030 processor or later, System 7.1 or later, and a monitor running at least 640x480. Macintosh Garden's compatibility list extends that to System 7.0-7.6 and Mac OS 9 on 68k hardware.Reception note from the authorHenderson (ScottH17@aol.com) wrote in the Info-Mac upload that response had been very good so far, with more people than anticipated registering the program - a small data point on how addictive late-90s Mac card shareware was finding its audience.
