About

Romi is a Macintosh implementation of Rummy-tile games (variously called RummyCube, RummiKub and Rami), written by Gerard Brochu. The Classic Mac version 1.x supported black-and-white screens on System 6.0.4 and later, while a System 7 color build at 800x600 followed. A Mac OS X release reached version 4.0.GameplayPer the submission notes, Romi is "a Rummy simulation, played with two sets of 52 regular cards and two wildcards." Players form melds of three or more consecutive cards in the same suit, or matching values across different suits, racing the computer to clear their hand.Versions and platformsThe Mac OS X 4.0 build advertises three computer skill levels and pits a single human against the AI. Earlier 68k versions (1.7.1 and 2.0) carried the same core ruleset but split between black-and-white System 6 hardware and color System 7 displays.AuthorRomi is the work of Gerard Brochu, distributed through Macintosh Garden as discontinued shareware. It runs natively on classic 68k and PowerPC hardware and under SheepShaver and other emulators for users on modern systems.SuitabilityThe black-and-white 1.7.1 build is a useful pick for early compact Macs and B&W PowerBooks, while the System 7 color and OS X releases target later desktops where larger screens make tile layouts easier to read.
