AboutHang is a Macintosh implementation of the classic word-guessing game Hangman, in the lineage of Ken Winograd's long-running shareware HangMan first released in 1985. It is a small, focused puzzle title built for quick play sessions on early black-and-white Macs and very much of its 68k era.The Classic Word GuessGameplay follows the standard pen-and-paper rules: a hidden word is shown as blanks, the player guesses one letter at a time, and each wrong guess adds another piece to the gallows figure. Guess the word before the figure is complete and you win.Shareware RootsThe Mac saw a long line of Hangman shareware through the late 1980s and 1990s. Ken Winograd's HangMan reached version 9.0 by the end of its run, and spawned variants like HangMan Plus (a colour update) and Hangman Pro. "Hang" sits squarely in that family of small, self-contained word puzzles.Built for Early MacsThese Hangman builds are 68k applications that target System 1-5 through System 7, so they boot on practically any black-and-white compact Mac and run happily under Mini vMac. The interface is mouse-and-menu driven with a tiny memory footprint. |
