About

Freeling Hexdame is a Classic Mac implementation of Hexdame, an abstract strategy game invented by Dutch game designer Christian Freeling that adapts the rules of international draughts to a hexagonal board. The shift from squares to hexes opens up six directions of movement and capture, turning a familiar checkers framework into a denser tactical puzzle. The GamePieces move and capture across a hex grid, following draughts-style rules adapted by Freeling to suit the new geometry. Promotion to king and forced captures carry over from the original.DesignerChristian Freeling, the prolific Dutch designer behind Havannah, Dameo, and Grand Chess, who created Hexdame as part of his ongoing reworking of classic abstracts.Mac ImplementationA small shareware-era Mac program that brings the rules to the desktop with a playable board, suited to the System 7/8 environment.PreservationAvailable today through Macintosh Garden as part of the platform's catalogue of niche abstract strategy software.
