Assassin is a 1996 animated turn-based strategy game for the Classic Mac by Steven H. Taylor of Wahoo Software, released as shareware. Players program a sequence of simple moves for their character each turn, then watch as everyone's programmed moves play out together, in the spirit of Maxis's RoboSport.Program-and-execute combatEach turn, every player queues a short list of moves and actions for their character. Once all players have committed, the game animates the results simultaneously, so success depends on predicting where opponents will be rather than fast reflexes.Network multiplayerAssassin supports up to 10 players over an AppleTalk network, alongside a single-player mode against computer opponents. It is, in the author's own words, mostly fun over a network.System needsThe game requires a 68020 or better Mac running System 7.1 or later. It uses color when available but does not require it, so it runs on greyscale Macs of the era.Shareware releaseVersion 1.1.2 is the second public release and a minor update, distributed through Info-Mac and other shareware channels of the mid-1990s Mac scene.
