StuffIt Expander 3.0, the first version, was a combination of BinHex 5.0's "Download -> Application", the original only StuffIt product that was free, the UnStuffIt application, and Compact Pro's "Desktop-Expand" feature. As soon as the first version of the all-in-one StuffIt Expander was released, it became a "must-have" for Macintosh users to use Macintosh files from BBS or Internet. With the release of StuffIt Deluxe 2.0, Aladdin introduced the "Expander Enhancer" (a System Control Panel named: "StuffIt Engine") which was bundled with all later version releases of StuffIt Deluxe and DropStuff, allowing StuffIt Expander and other programs that supported the Engine to utilize archives created by other programs such as .zip and .tar.
