MacChess 5.01 (German edition) is a free, master-strength chess program for the PowerPC Macintosh by Wim van Beusekom, with menus and displays localized into German. By the late 1990s MacChess 2.5 alone had become the most-downloaded title in AOL's Mac Board Games area, with over 26,000 downloads, and the 5.x line carried that lineage forward.Engine and StrengthThe reworked 5.01 engine finds forced mates faster, ships with an opening book expanded by nearly 12,000 positions, and roughly doubles its score on one standard endgame test.
