About

Machinko 1.0 is a Pachinko-like game for classic Mac OS, written by Syd Logan as a self-described exercise in Macintosh graphics and animation programming. The author bills it as a low-skill amusement aimed at small children: balls drop, pins deflect, and the player mostly enjoys the visuals rather than wrestling with deep mechanics.Pachinko HeritagePachinko is a Japanese arcade staple, somewhere between a vertical pinball machine and a slot machine. Machinko keeps that premise on the Mac desktop, with steel-ball physics bouncing through a pinned playfield rather than recreating the gambling-parlor side of the original.A Programming ExerciseIn the release notes, Logan explains that Machinko was built to learn Mac graphics and animation rather than to compete with commercial titles. The result is a small, focused demo whose chief appeal is its presentation rather than its rules.PostcardwareThe author asked players to mail postcards if they wanted a more ambitious follow-up, with mailing details in the bundled release notes. This puts Machinko firmly in the postcardware tradition that flourished on Info-Mac in the 1990s.DistributionMachinko 1.0 was uploaded to the Info-Mac Archive under game/ for classic Mac OS, with a contact URL on the author's old CTS personal site.
