About

Otello 2.0 is a freeware strategy board game by Ron Hayter, released in 1992 for non-commercial distribution. Despite the operatic name, it is a Reversi-style game of disc flipping; the author notes only a vague resemblance to the better-known commercial product. It can be played against the Mac or used as a two-player electronic board. How it playsStandard Reversi rules on an eight-by-eight board, with players placing discs to flank and flip their opponent's pieces.Skill levelsThe Mac opponent can play at three skill levels, and the program will optionally suggest what it thinks is the best move available at any moment.Two-player modeOtello can also be used purely as an electronic board between two human players, leaving move selection entirely in their hands.Version 2.0 changesAdded color support, made the board resizable, and improved the move-evaluation algorithm over the original 1.0 release.LicenseCopyright 1990-1992 Ron Hayter, all rights reserved. Non-commercial distribution only; the author requests a postcard from anyone who enjoys the game.
