AboutSpiff-o-Matic 0.1 is the first release in Charles Mangin's Niftee-Tron line of small Macintosh diversions, distributed as Floppyware through the Info-Mac game archive. Self-described by its author as a new paradigm in interactivity (a phrase that sends the Niftee-Tron team into laughter), it is a tongue-in-cheek toy rather than a conventional game.Click, Switch, SmilePlay begins by double-clicking the Spiff-o-Matic icon in the Finder, then clicking inside the title screen window. A simple on/off switch sets the Spiff-o-Matic in motion. The whole experience is built around minimalist clickable interaction rather than scoring or goals.Floppyware LicenseLike the rest of the Niftee-Tron catalog, Spiff-o-Matic is Floppyware: users are invited to put it on a floppy disk, copy it freely, and pass it to friends. The only ask is an email to the author (option8@mindspring.com) if the program raises a smile, laugh, or giggle.Author and LineupCharles Mangin, who described himself as a terminal geek and mental hygienist, released Spiff-o-Matic from option8.com and mentalhygiene.com. It was the launch title for the Niftee-Tron product line and shipped to Info-Mac as spiff-o-matic-01.hqx. |
