line of small subnotebooks manufactured and sold by Apple Computer

The PowerBook Duo 2300c was Apple’s only PowerBook Duo based on a PowerPC CPU. To make the 2300c compatible with Duo Docks for earlier models, the 100 MHz 64-bit PowerPC 603e CPU was used on a 33 MHz 32-bit bus, which seriously compromised performance.

The 9.5″ 640 x 480 display normally runs in 8-bit/256-color mode, but by switching to 640 x 400 resolution it support 16-bit color.

According to the Road Warrior and Other World Computing , the drive controller in pre-G4 PowerBooks is incompatible with ATA-6/Ultra ATA-100 hard drives.

Computer

The PowerBook Duo 210 was the first dockable Mac. By eliminating the internal floppy drive (as Apple had done with the PowerBook 100 ) along with other size- and weight-saving measures, Apple got it down to 4.2 pounds.

Because of its design, PowerBook Duos cannot use a floppy drive, external hard drive or other SCSI device, connect to an external display, or be used on a network without a dock.

The Duo sports a 4-bit passive-matrix screen similar to the 6.8 lb. PowerBook 160 .

Specs (via Low End Mac)

  • Cpu: 25 MHz 68030
  • Fpu: optional 68882 in dock

Along with the 25 MHz PowerBook Duo 210 , the Duo 230 was the first dockable Mac. By eliminating the internal floppy drive (as with PowerBook 100 ) along with other size and weight saving measures, Apple got this one down to 4.2 pounds.

Because of its design, there is no way to use a floppy drive, SCSI device, external display, or network without adding a DuoDock of some sort.

The Duo sports a 4-bit passive-matrix screen similar to the 6.8 lb. PowerBook 160 .
